Compostitions of Cosmetics

  • The main ingredients in mineral makeups are usually coverage pigments, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, both of which are also physical sunscreens.

  • Other main ingredients include mica (Sericite) and pigmenting minerals, such as iron oxide, tin oxide, and magnesium myristate.

  • Mineral makeup usually does not contain synthetic fragrances, preservatives, parabens, mineral oil, and chemical dyes. Because of this, many dermatologists consider mineral makeup to be purer and kinder to the skin than makeup that contains those ingredients.
  • However, some mineral makeups contain Bismuth Oychloride, which can be irritating to the skin of sensitive individuals. Others also contain talc over which there is some controversy because of its comedogenic tendencies (tendency to clog pores and therefore cause acne) and because some people are sensitive to talc.

Where Does Make Up Originate From?

Anybody would be surprised by the fact that the use of cosmetics or makeup can be traced to as far back as the time of the Ancient Egyptians. This has been discovered thanks to various forms of archaeological evidence. The members of the Egyptian royalty were said to have been the first ones to use it. Men in particular were said to have first used it as a way to add colour to their faces and even make their own designs. Different types of ore(rock)  were said to have been the first implements of makeup to be utilised.

There are other examples of makeup usage during the ancient times. It is also believed that both the Romans and Greeks were also prominent makeup users even back then. Makeup usage is also cited during biblical times. The dawn of the Victorian era saw the everyday utilisation of makeup and even more so for women. This was done to achieve as pale a complexion as possible.

Makeup has since greatly grown over the years and has turned in to a very lucrative enterprise for some companies. Makeup may be more popular now than it ever was but even then people were always looking for that extra help to look even better.

Types Of Make Up

There are so many different products on the market nowadays.
  • For face make up the products on offer range from foundation, bronzer, blusher, highlighter, and normal face powder. These come in so many different shades and brands.

  • Eyes also have a large range of products on the market that people can use- eyeliner, gel/liquid eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, again these come in so many shades and brands.

  • People never usually think of shampoos, conditioners, body scrubs/shower gels/soaps as cosmetics. Although everything that people use to make their overall appearance better is known as cosmetics. Anything people "modify their body" with is known as a cosmetic.

  • Lips are the last major area of the face that cosmetics have a big range for. Lipsticks have come back into fashion lately with younger people like teenagers wearing lipstick when they go out instead of just wearing Lipgloss. Another item for the lips is lip liner, this is a type of pencil that is drawn on the outline of the lips to define them more.

Why Wear Make Up?

All Ladies know that we wear make up and use cosmetics to improve our over all look. Make up can be applied in a very specific way or in a way that will just get you through the day. If I'm going out in the evening or to something fancy I will make a specific effort with my make up but I find when I'm just putting on my make up for school I use the same routine every day and it rarely changes. Although recently I find myself wearing less and less make up and sometimes none to school. My confidence goes down a little but when I think about how good it is for my face to get some fresh air and not be masked in all the different products I put on every morning I feel happier. I think people wear make up to improve their confidence and help them become happier with their look.
Something I think though for example if all the girls in my school didn't wear make up then none of us would have to....we all could go around keeping make up for the weekends and just give our skin the fresh air it needs. Nobody would be any prettier than anybody else because we all would just be natural.

Something to think about? :)
